SIERP Phase 1 – Update – December 12, 2023
As of 2359 hours on Monday, December 11, 2023, Parks Canada has ceased the eradication operation
and are in the process of taking down the signs and barricades on all common property. Common
property, trails, and interior roads are now fully open and available for normal use.
Over the next week, you may see Parks Canada equipment being moved off the island at our barge
ramp. Owners are reminded to contact Dan Polson to arrange a reservation time if you are bringing
anything to the island by barge to avoid scheduling conflicts.
Parks Canada has documented all deer removed. The numbers will be made publicly available as soon
as Parks Canada reviews and verifies their data from various sources.
To this point it appears that Parks Canada has followed the access agreement with no apparent or
reported breaches of the agreement. There were a few questions posed by owners during the
operation about where shooting was taking place. Parks Canada provided Sallas with live mapping of
deer as they were dispatched and another layer confirming recovery of the carcasses. All dispatched
deer occurred well onto common property with no shots taken on roads, private property or limited
common property.
As we move into Phase 2 in the new year, owners will be provided with more details as they become
available.
